ECUADOR, A LAND OF DIVERSITY
Ecuador is a beautiful country - a land of diversity. Located on the equator between Peru and Columbia. Although no larger than the State of Nevada, Ecuador has three distinct climate zones - the Amazon jungle, the coastal plains with beautiful beaches, and the rugged Andes Mountains. Each has it's own climate, culture and animal life. Ecuador is also a land of volcanoes. A few among the 32 active volcanoes are Guagua Pichincha, Tungurahua, Cotopaxi, Reventador, and Sangay. The Galapagos Islands with it's unique wildlife also belong to the country of Ecuador.
With a population of about 12 million - the people of Ecuador are as beautiful and diverse as the landscape. While some of the people are of Spanish decent there are also many groups of indigenous peoples including the Cofan, Otavalo, Waorani, Suar, Puruha and the Quichua. While there is great wealth in Ecuador the majority of the population live in poverty.
Ecuador boasts bustling modern cities, and quaint pueblos, but a days drive will take you to remote and humble villages.
